Data Integration for 3rd Party Systems
Project Scope
1,370 MW (2X685 MW) super critical coal based power plant located in Raikheda, Tilda block, Raipur district. The plant was installed with 300+ Energy Meters and 400+ Protection Relays from different brands and models for power monitoring, control and protection purpose. Their Data Control System (DCS) has difficulty to integrate data from down-stream devices (i.e. Indian Brand, ABB, Beckwith, Areva and GE Multilin). Most devices were using Modbus and IEC protocols but some were using custom modbus protocol. In addition, acquisition of energy data, waveform data, event logs as well as energy reporting were desired.
Challenge
Apart from integrating devices with standard protocols, the challenge of this project was to develop different drivers for devices with custom protocols. The communication protocol to be used to talk with their DCS was another critical concern. OPC was finally adopted as the protocol to pass data up-stream for central monitoring and control purpose, but except waveform data. A solution was required to address all these issues.
Solution & Result
Our PecStar iEMS® was proposed, not just as a front end data acquisition software, but an enterprise software to master all data for analysis and reporting purpose. PecStar iEMS® is an integrated energy management system offers a distributed, modular and hierarchical structures for Power Plant, Substation and Utilities. It supports multiple communications standards and protocols available on various intelligent metering devices as well as custom modbus mapping.
Customer was satisfied with the solution, since all required data could reach DCS for their applications. Besides, iEMS' web-enabled interface offers them a user friendly platform for system analysis, waveform display and reporting purpose.
